How to Grow Your Love of Reading

February is a significant month. People make resolutions for the new year, and they hope to stick by them. January is gone reminiscing the last year and trying to bring a new enthusiasm and routine in life in order to achieve those resolutions. February effectively is the month where routine sets in and hopes are renewed. People who could not start working on their goals or are lagging behind in their efforts, this spring month fills their heart with new hopes.

February is also the month of love for people who believe in celebrating love in a pompous way, with gifts, flowers and also display of affection on public forums. This year, ColoringLIFE would like you to share your love for reading, starting with Valentine’s day till the end of the month. Share with us what you are reading or what’s on your bucket list of reading. This will inspire many to dive into the world of words and learn a few things, spend relaxed time and travel to beautiful lands of stories. Besides, we would also like you to help someone read. This month not only share your love for reading but your privilege that you are able to read. Help someone who is not proficient in reading the written word. Let’s see how else you can share your love of reading:

    1. Books that you have read, find a way for them to be read by someone else. Donate them to old age homes, orphanages and local libraries. Magazines could be given to doctor’s offices or wherever people tend to wait.
    2. On occasions like birthday, anniversaries, and major festivals start gifting books. If you are not sure what would make an interesting read, take the person along with you or gift them some a book voucher to buy a book or reading material of their interest.
    3. Make it a habit of taking your kids to libraries and book fairs or exhibitions. Let them touch, scan the contents and just feel the air with books and authors around.
    4. At your workplace, maybe a book club would be an interesting meeting joint.
    5. Be a role model to your children. Read before them. Introduce your home to books of all kinds, fiction, nonfiction, magazines, mythological, arts and crafts. When children see parents reading, they will understand and realize that reading is fun and useful. Prompt them to read more and watch less on the screen.
    6. You could also volunteer to teach at an NGO, once a week or once a month. Visit the Discover page on ColoringLIFE’s website to learn about many such opportunities.  Help someone read and write, or inspire them to learn more.
    7. Choose to make monetary donations every once in awhile to NGOs of your choice, that serve the cause of kids education, youth development, and adult illiteracy.
    8. Help your house help with reading, writing, math and basic technological skills. In free time, you may also help their children with their school work.

Enjoy and nurture the privilege of reading. Read often and share this joy more often. ColoringLIFE family wishes that this love of reading stays with you forever.
